Kim Cartwright

Kim Cartwright has been a dedicated nurse for over 30 years. During
her many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), she has been
employed in various areas in healthcare including cardiac medicine,
internal medicine, surgical offices, rehabilitation, emergency
departments, medical surgical units, correctional facilities, home health,
and patient and staff education. Kim is responsible for establishing the
Black Nurses of Southern Maryland, Inc. in February 2012 with the
support of fifteen of her closest friends and colleagues who supported
her vision to serve the nursing community and patients of Southern
Maryland. Kim is the first LPN in the history of the National Black
Nurses Association to organize and be elected as the President of a local
chapter. In June 2015 Kim was elected to the National Black Nurses
Association Board of Directors as representative for Licensed Practical
Nurses where she proudly served to uplift the voice of LPNs within the
healthcare community. In 2021 Kim was re-elected to the NBNA Board
where she currently serves as the LPN representative. In 2021 Kim
proudly became a member of the 1 st LPN Sorority, Lambda Psi Nu. In
April of 2022 she was selected to serve on the Board of the Lambda Psi
Nu Youth Group as the Vice President.

Currently, Kim is an Account Manager with Medstar Visiting Nurse
Association in Clinton, MD. She is very active in her church, and is
involved with local community events surrounding disparities that
affect the African American communities. She teaches professional and
community First Aid/CPR as a Certified American Heart Association
Instructor. Her future goals are to continue representing the nursing
profession and make a measurable impact on the health of her
community.
